MARTA TRAINS TO TEMPORARILY SKIP STOP BROOKHAVEN STATION DURING PLATFORM PAVER CONSTRUCTION
Bus Service at Brookhaven Not Impacted, Bus Shuttles Provided from Brookhaven to Lenox and Chamblee Stations

ATLANTA – Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) trains will temporarily skip stop Brookhaven Station from Oct. 7 to Nov. 15 so construction crews can replace the 40-year-old pavers on the rail station platform. Rail service on the Gold Line will operate as scheduled, but trains will not stop at Brookhaven Station.

“The pavers on the platform at Brookhaven are in poor condition. We’ve repaired them as best we can over the years but it’s time to replace them before it becomes a safety hazard for our customers and creates accessibility challenges getting on and off the train,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood.

Because there is no track work associated with this project, just platform work, trains can travel through the station but will not stop. MARTA will provide bus shuttle service between Brookhaven and Lenox Station to the south and Brookhaven and Chamblee Station to the north. Local bus service (Routes 8, 25, 47, 110) will run as scheduled.

If you park at Brookhaven and take the train, consider parking at a nearby rail station and catching the train there. Free daily parking is available at Lenox, Chamblee, and Doraville stations. If you walk to Brookhaven or transfer from the bus system, the bus shuttles will take you to nearby Lenox or Chamblee to connect you to the rail system.

As with the Airport Station project earlier this year, temporarily restricting customer access to the work zone ensures everyone’s safety and significantly reduces construction time and cost. The six-week skip stop at Brookhaven reduces the construction timeline by almost 2 years and decreases project costs by $9 million.

NEED TO KNOW:

  • Gold Line trains will skip stop Brookhaven Station Oct. 7 – Nov. 15.
  • Customers may not enter Brookhaven Station to catch the train or exit the train at Brookhaven.
  • Bus service at Brookhaven will operate normally.
  • Bus shuttles will provide transportation between Brookhaven and Lenox and Brookhaven and Chamblee.
  • Allow an extra 15 minutes for travel when taking shuttle.
  • Parking and tunnel access will remain available on both sides of the station.

During the six-week skip stop, the following work will be completed at Brookhaven:

  • Demolition of existing flooring
  • Installation of new tile flooring
  • Installation of new tactile warning strips on platform edges
  • Installation of new expansion joint benches and trash cans
  • Concrete will be pressure washed, sealed, and a graffiti-resistant coating applied

There is additional work planned for Brookhaven, such as rehabilitation of the concourse, canopy and wall repairs, sign upgrades, and the installation of new SMART restrooms that use technology to ensure the spaces are clean and safe. Work previously completed at the station includes parking lot repaving, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access improvements, and roof replacement on the traction power substation.

The full Brookhaven Station project will cost $13 million through fiscal year 2027 and is part of MARTA’s multi-year, approximately $1 billion Station Rehabilitation Program designed to improve and enhance safety and aesthetics at all 38 rail stations.
